I found my solution.

Windows Media Encoder.

It's free, runs on Win2k/XP, compressed my 1GB video with audio down to 50MB without hardly any video or audio loss (still DVD quality).

  1. Is VirtualDub free?
  2. Will VirtualDub let me encode in DivX while also including my audio (I record my FRAPS with audio)

Well... I've used both VirtualDub and Sony Vegas in the past -- both compress well & both allow the divx codec to be used.

I just like Sony Vegas because it allows you to use sequences of images and add audio separately as well as saving under specific codecs (excellent as a follow-up to Source Recorder). ;)

(1) WMV is terrible for quality - I was kinda hoping for divx or something like that

I used to use AVItoMPEG (name of program) to compress in divx without any issues (Free too) but its not working for me for some reason (crashes).

(2) Those aren't very good instructions, lol. More like a comment.

You re-save it as a wmv file? Idk outside of that.
