Ok, you have a few choices here.
1) Renegade public tools includes a utility called 'W3DView' which lets you view any W3D file in a 3d environment, although it's positioning tools are a little lacking (you can rotate and zoom on center, but not actually move it around the screen to get a better angle). If you dont feel like installing the entire public tools package give me a shout on xfire or msn (
dannypepsipaul@ntlworld.com) and I will send you the files for the viewer only, which *should* work without needing the installer.
2) W3D Importer lets you import any W3D model into either 3DS Max versions 6, 7 or 8 (9 and 10 are not supported at all), or RenX.
To get the W3D files in the first place use either RenEx or XCC Mixer and extract them from always.dat. Personally I prefer RenEx because it does not take half an hour to load and has a simpler to use interface.
The W3D importers and RenEx are available from
www.renhelp.net, which also has a bunch of tutorials on Renegade modding.
The ones you will want are;
One of
W3D Importer for Gmax
This allows you to import W3D files into RenX.
W3D Importer for 3d Studio Max
This allows you to import W3D files into 3ds Max 6 and above.
W3D Importer for 3d Studio Max
This allows you to import W3D files into 3d Studio Max 4-5.
And one of;
Renegade Ex
Use this tool to modify all renegade archives. (.mix, .pkg, .dat)
XCC Tools
Use this tool to modify all renegade archives. (.mix, .pkg, .dat)
(Renegade Ex is my preference here)
