it never randomly shut off which is weird. i doubt that he had a virus. whenever he started it up it wouldnt go to blue hell it showed a black screeen that said restart normally, in safe mode n stuff like that but none of the options work.

The best bet with a laptop is to buy a cooling pad, preferably one that plugs into any unused USB port. My mom's laptop had that problem for a while, she'd be playing it and then it randomly shuts off and won't restart for about 10-15 minutes(cool down time).

they put laptops on the bottom so geeky dorks that use it for like 5 hours sterlize themselves from the heat :)

but yah i guess we'll know wat happened in a few days...

Most hardware these days has built in heat protection, and forces a crash or freeze before its allowed to do physical damage to itself.

With laptops, you definitely need to make sure they stay cool and ventilated. I never unstood why on a LAPtop they put the vents on the bottom......

Well its never a good idea to block the vent, so I suppose that it could have overheated, like you said. Are you sure there isnt another vent on the side?

Either that, or the harddrive just fried, they do that sometimes, especially the small delicate ones.
