ENSURE that the motherboard drivers, audio drivers, BIOS, etc are up to date... or if you reload it, make sure you do this.

BIOS especially, most people dont give a damn about it, but it is the backbone of your OS, essentially.

Your motherboard interfaces with your hardware, and the BIOS runs the motherboard.

One thing i hate is installing fresh but sometimes you just have 2

Boot your computer from the XP cd, and go into the installation. When it detects that you already have XP installed, there will be an option for 'Repair'. Select that.

Basically this will overwrite all of your operating system files with a fresh copy - meaning you'll have to repatch from scratch. Sucks, and timely, but its the safest way.

Another idea would be to use a registry checker program to see if there are critical keys missing from the registry. Which would also cause this sort of problem. If it is, and can be repaired, it may be able to fix it.

Try using something like PC Wizard 2008 and/or Registry Mechanic. Using utilities like those can usually give you a clear picture of what is wrong.

I'm a big supporter of OS reloads, so you'll always hear me talking about reloading the OS whenever you have a significant problem like this. But this is definitely not the end of the world (I believe I've had to deal with this before, myself).

Heres my sound drivers after my schost.exe file gotten f*cked up (which happend today)
as for usb 2.0 drivers, some drivers work on i believe service pack 1 for winxp but I'm like i said only saying what has happened to me that looks similar

To be honest it looks more like something inside the operating system has become corrupted for whatever reason. I know it's a PITA but the quickest and easiest solution is often a complete re-installation of the operating system.

If you don't want to or cannot do that for whatever reason try uninstalling any software or drivers you recently installed, and rolling back any recent windows updates where possible. Those WMI error messages suggest the management interface is non functional, which means any programs which rely on it for information (IE: Device Manager, Intellipoint) will either function incorrectly or crash outright.

Oh, and on the subject of WMI, I assume you didn't disable the Windows Management Interface service?

That was mainly for you my44mag. I'll check my motherboard later. I have no system restore points because I turned it off for an unrelated reason. Any more ideas would be nice.

Looks like operating system prob to me..reload it?

I dont know what kind of software problem it might be, but did you fry your motherboard?
