things a dell right, find your service tag on a sticker, should be next to the windows serial on the side of the tower. enter that in to that dell driver sh*t i found you and itll give you a list of all of the ones that are default for your model

Well the ethernet controller is what you need to connect to the internet, if you have the original motherboard driver disks then that's where most of those missing drivers should be (unless the ethernet card is a discrete one). PCI modem you probably don't need to worry about at the moment unless your on dial up, Windows Update should sort be able to out any remaining driver issues as soon as you manage to get the PC online.

If you can't find any disks try opening up the case and getting the model number and manufacturer of the motherboard from the stickers on it (or, if it's a discrete card, the same for that) and then plugging those into google, very often you will get a quick result.

Its says my ethernet controller is missing. Along with a multimedia audio controller and a pci modem.

I checked the device manager and there was a part that that icons i believe, my ethernet thing on other sh*t i didnt recognize.

Check the Device Manager for anything with a ? or ! icon next to it, that indicates a device with no drivers, the wrong drivers or some other fault.

Also make sure the network adapter's TCP/IP properties are set to automatically obtain an IP address, this is essential for connecting to an internet connection, you can't provide a static IP of your own.

If your using a cable modem (it might also apply to other types of connections too) which came with an installation disk you may need to run that installation disk on the new computer to associate the new machine's MAC address with your cable subscription.

I cant f*cking figure it out...I pulled the cable....plugged it into the fixd pc and nothing. I tried all my install discs...nothing. I checked under my drivers and none were installed. IM guessing thats the problem I just dont know how to get em back if I dont the cd's anymore.

my44mag is correct.

If it doesnt pull an IP address, then you can try:

Code: Select all

ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew
(in a command prompt)

yes you can if you network the comps together thru a hub "home network" you can share any thing among the comps..back and fourth, just have to edit the folders as "share folder"

And pluging a comp into existing web line..should work if you set it up as obtain a Ip address automatically ..thats after you set up the providers info "account" in you browser.. so clear the beer bottles and roaches out the way and get at it.

Internet

Okay so here is the deal.

I had a pc, when I lived out here in cali the first time. When I left my dad clusterfucked it to hell, viruses and whatnot. Its been sitting for prolly years now. I just reinstalled the os(many thanks for fires) and shes like new.

The current pc I am on now, sucks huge massive saggy testicles. If i take the internet cable from this pc and plug it straight into the pc I just fixed, Will it just work or am I going to have to do some installing.

Its late, im tired and I dont feel like searching for the right install disc's and im not sure if I even have them. Thats why Im asking, im going to bed, I have to work tomorrow so hopefully when I come home someone will have a yes or no answer...someone who actually knows what they are talking about.

And

Is there a way to just f*cking plug two pc's together and transfer data? Like pictures, word documents and such? If not Once i get the new pc up and running I can just email em or send em to myself over msn.

TY.
