ask fl00d to get his ip range, and ban that. he came back in again last night and was quickly banned because i was ingame, you dont have to do it because i will be checking the ip logs each day for his ip but it would be helpful.

IPs
Code: Select all
[17:36] <fl00d3d> !ip mjcrophon
[17:36] -TsuCTF- [TSU] mjcrophon #0 -- 4.239.252.180
[17:36] -TsuCTF- [TSU] mjcrophon #1 -- 4.239.165.161
[17:36] -TsuCTF- [TSU] mjcrophon #2 -- 4.238.152.181
[17:36] <fl00d3d> !ip bone1010
[17:36] -TsuCTF- [TSU] bone1010 #0 -- 4.239.165.10
[17:36] -TsuCTF- [TSU] bone1010 #1 -- 4.238.152.123
[17:36] -TsuCTF- [TSU] bone1010 #2 -- 4.239.252.96
[17:36] -TsuCTF- [TSU] bone1010 #3 -- 4.239.165.214
[17:36] -TsuCTF- [TSU] bone1010 #4 -- 4.238.152.179
[17:36] -TsuCTF- [TSU] bone1010 #5 -- 4.239.165.77
[17:36] -TsuCTF- [TSU] bone1010 #6 -- 4.238.152.51
His IP range includes the entire 4.x.x.x network
It's dial up.
But that's OK. I'm fine with banning all dial up users on that network. If you have dial up in 2008 then you need to be shot ... or you need to move.

see that's 16777216 addresses we'd have to ban (yes 16 million)
i'm no expert of NR but if it stores them all as separate entities, that'd definitely bog down the ban list. And second... statistically there HAS to be a greater percentage of innocent ren players in 16M+ ip addresses

Actually, there are what... about 6.5 billion on Earth? I'd say 10%-15% of that use dialup, leaving us with around 850 million people, with an IP of 1-999.x.x.x, gives you around 850 thousand. This is a very rough estimate.. but then in my opinion, Most likely 5 of those know what 'C&C Renegade' is, and play it, then of those 5, most likely 4 play on Jelly, and 1 plays randomly.
Point being: Banning that range won't do too much damage, if any.

4.238 and 4.239 would be a good start for now.

Yeah but the entire 16,777,214 range would be nothing but dial up users. Who not only lag, but are a b*tch to supervise if they're banned or break rules.
I'm just stating that I'm OK with it.

killer just so you know, ip ranges have values from 0-255.... (1 byte)
well when i get back from work i'll start with the 4.238 and 4.239 ranges... but if we have trouble from any 4.x.x.x addresses that appear to be this individual THEN i'll ban them all

255? Thought it was 999.. wierd..
But that just makes my previous post better :p Banning that full range won't do much if anything >.>

for now it appears all his ip's are 238 and 239, so until he starts going outside that those ranges would suffice.

probably a silly question coming from an admin (which is why i'll be getting lessons from fl00d) but does NR's ipban list accept wildcard characters?
I've never had to do an ipban of this magnitude before and would hate to think i had to type 131072 individual ips lol
