Ok, so many of you will prolly say this is all basic stuff, but im comfused...
SO i have: 2x^3-7x^2-19x+35 and I need to factor this.. I can't just square root everything.... im confuzzled

dude that's not even a factorable polynomial.... you've made some error in coming up with it

for real?! it's on my problem set, i got two of the same things with different numbers... super confused... teacher prolly say oops my bad kids, i messed up this problem day its due

it cannot be reduced by any means, including a calculator that does symbolic calculus... if he says it can be done, fight the man
ordinarily with these you use something called synthetic divison, but for this specific one it doesn't work

2x^3-7x^2-19x+35
x(2x^2 - 7x - 19) = -35
wtf o-o
is it set equal to something?

no this is just general polynomial factoring and even if it was set equal to something, you'd still have to maneuver it such that there was a zero on the right in order to get any answers

nice, well... here's the same type of problem with different numbers, still dont get anywhere. I'll check with my teachers tomorrow, i will "fight" the man, even though my math teacher is a WOMAN
EDIT::::: Im an idiot i forgot to put in numbers =D
10x^3+10x^2+3x+3.... gotta factor it.... sooooo
x(10x^2+10x+3)=-3
i dunno, could this just be answer? like farn's as well, that all you can do to it? anyway i'll get back to it tomorrow

if it's not initially set equal to something, you can't make an equation out of an expression
now this new problem is factorable... use basic FOIL factoring if you can see it, or synthetic divison, either will work
the result should be (x+1)(10x^2+3)
if you need an explanation of how synthetic division works, let me know and i'll draw it up on my tablet and post in this thread

10x^3+10x^2+3x+3
isnt it
30x^2+20x+3=0
so that means
30x^2+20x=-3
x(30x+20)=-3
so x=0 or x= 1,5?

But thank you for trying to help! You should introduce yourself in the correct forum. =D

aha! but ecstasy he's new, plus he posted something that was (then) important to the topic. unlike calum who abused this.
just make sure to look at the dates in posts

(in top right of a post) and make a guess on if this topic is dead or not
first post whats up!?!?

dark, that's getting into derivatives and calculus.

yeah stay away from derivatives, that'll just make him more confused
