Well my ping sky rockets for reasons i cannot explain, it may do it when there are only 6 ppl playing but most of the time it dose it when about 12 ppl are playing, it never used to do this untill a few weeks ago, i thort it would just fix itself but it hasn't, would re-installing ren help? or even uninstalling ren-guard? Iv'e rang up my provider and the just tell me to email them, then the email tells me to call them so its a never ending circle, stupid providers.

Go to
http://www.speedtest.net and post your results.
Odds are your internet is fine, its just your cpu that is randomly spiking or spyware is eating up bandwidth.
But the best place to start is figuring out what your speeds are, then go from there.

For DSL, that's actually "max". You can't really support more than that on a DSL line. 512k is good upload, and you have 256k more than that. 3Mb of download is good (expecially on DSL), and you have over 2x that. So you're doing very well.
But lets not turn this into an ISP discussion.

Yea, well Hil, the problem is, you and I are in Australia, and with 2 people on the internet at the same time, we are getting lag because it cant handle that many people at once.

I assume you to live in the same house then?
With her connection, unless one of your is hosting torrents, i doubt that would cause lag spikes.

Eski and I have also experienced some terrible lag relatively recently. We both get this laggy type thing, where we're getting it by a tank but it's turret appears to be facing the other way. Also, I've been getting damaged about 3-5 seconds before I see a person/tank fire.

Twas a joke nightma, and no, we don't live in the same house
Then again... Aussie does have crappy internet and phone services...
But yea, I get those lag spikes aswell, but thats probably caused by my wi-fi only being able to reach around 40% connectivity at any one time, and also disconnecting every so often.

Having a ping problem can be from a result of a lot of problems, either one problem, or as a group of problems.
1) Check to see whats hogging up your internet. Most of the time, something that is hogging up your upload when your on DSL can make your download nearly absolete. Or if you have something using 100% of your download speed, you can't really play video games either.
2) Since your in Australia, and a lot of the servers are hosted in US / UK, I guess distance could be a problem?
3) Having lots of spyware - adware - virus activity on your computer can drain your speed as well.
4) CPU / RAM / I-O usage, even though this could be irrelevant to your internet speed in some ways, having any one of these can increase your ping. Having a lower FPS, can increase a PING.
My 2 cents.
