Another ping story o.O

Here's another lag story for everyone. I dunno what's been up lately... but every time i go into renegade (topic could be moved i dunno ur decision) i start lagging horribly. I get on average 12 fps... Also, in the beginning of the game, it says i can't use the bandwidth exploit thing. I never get this, and all of a sudden i start getting it? I've always ran fraps, msn, teamspeak, xfire, and irc while i play renegade. So haven't added anything that i use when i play. any ideas on how to fix this
me is sad

Heh
What is your average ping? There might be something extra running in the background, or irc is doin stuff :p low fps isnt always caused by ping

k fine maybe it isn't a ping

its just overall annoying lag
on average ping is like 92 to 135
but recently i been getting huge lag spikes where it goes to like 8k, and then i get gameplay pending, or i get disconnected, or i just wait like a min before it goes back down to like 500, then back to normal...
just kinda annoying cuz i never used to have this problem, haven't installed anything... just....laggy like this

It sounds like you have two issues:
- Intermittent ISP issues. Your ping is most likely spiking up because either your computer chokes or your ISP chokes. It's most likely your ISP. However, since you're also experiencing FPS lag (which I'll talk about in #2) they *could* be related (cpu lagging your connection)
- CPU cycles being hogged. Make sure all extra programs like MSN, Firefox, Internet explorer, and expecially download programs/P2P are completely closed. Not minimized ... closed. If you have something going on in the background, it will eat up your CPU. And Renegade will use as much of your CPU as possible. So if you get 1 flamer on your screen (which lags you) plus you have programs running in the background which keep you at 90% cpu .... then it will tip you over the top to 100% and thats when your FPS will drop really low.
Most likely it's one of those two reasons. I'm guessing its #2.

closed down every single thing on the comp but renegade... still got that low fps. Im gonna try some stuff ttonite tho.
Also, my dad complains a lot cuz my wii is hooked up to the internet through wifi, and is ALWAYS on. Could this be causing a problem w/ my lagging here?

errrrrr............. i jsut opened up windows task manager... and heres how it goes. i went to the performance, and if i just wanted to click on "Forum" on the website, it spikes up to 80 to 100% used... i mean, its like up there above 80% used about 80% of the time... is this really bad? like i said im gonna do some stuff overnight and see what its like then... but what would be required for me to do to fix this, or is this normal?
i use xp not vista so i dunno if that helps

did you look on the process menu for a detailed description of what processes were hogging the most? if it shows up as system idle processes hogging alot when you system isn't idle, i'd suggest something like adaware.... also i'm not sure what kind of BW the wii uses in connect24 but that could cause some network lag depending on your total internet BW

Could be spyware if it only lags when establishing an internet connection. Or a corrupted TCP/IP stack.
Try the following to see if it helps:
- Run Scandisk to make sure your hard drive doesn't have any major errors
- Defrag
- Reboot your computer
- Run Spybot (free)
- Remove any spyware (double check what things are on google.com before deleting it, dont delete anything u need!)
- Reboot.
- If the problem persists, then put your Vista CD in and try to reinstall TCP/IP and then reinstall your network card drivers.
- Reboot.
- If the problem persists, Start > Run > msconfig (I'm assuming they have this on Vista as well) and check "Startup" for anything unsual. Then "remove" (uncheck) it. Reboot.
That's about all I can think of. One of those things should help.
You can also try looking through your system/application logs to see if any errors are being thrown which might give you a better clue.
I'm guessing spyware, though.

i use xp

with spybot, you gotta buy it to clean up what it finds rite?
can i get a completly fresh start? like, take every single thing of nothing on it? cuz i think it's probably the easiest way since im pretty bad w/ computers... not much of a loss, just install what i lost, i got a bunch of useless junk anyways...
so how do i do this? i quote " im pretty bad w/ computers"

winamp is THE best audio player around. why? Because I use it
If your talking about winamp TCP/IP, don't worry about it. but usually when you see TCP/IP in your case, it's about ports.

Trasnport Control Protocol / Internet Protocol tiz what most networks use.
