Vista and The First Decade

I recently bought (re-bought :( ) Command and Conquer: The First Decade and for some reason, the following games won't work:
  • Tiberian Sun
  • Red Alert 2
  • Yuri's Revenge
  • Renegade
The errors I can remember are:
  • Tiberian Sun says that one or more dll's are missing and to reinstall. I've done this - twice.
  • Renegade says that the online component isn't compatible with the product and says to reinstall the Online Component. I've reinstalled this twice as well. I even resorted to registering on the Renforums to get some help with this - only to have Goztow tell me to reinstall it again using his method which involves using Renguard - which won't happen.
The other two games have some gay FATAL error - which I'll take a screenshot later.

If anyone can help me out, I'd be sincerly greatful (considering these 4 games are my favourite Command and Conquer games).

Any idea what the dll's are?

Not a clue.

I could make a .txt and list them?

Even on XP (what TFD was designed for) I still have issues with TFD.

Missing .dll's is one thing. Perhaps you have a bad install disc. I know its brand new, but it DOES happen. Also, did you verify that the game is compatible with Vista? I know that TFD is, but they may have released different versions of it (some which were compatible with XP, and some which were compatible with Vista). You might want to double check and make sure you got the right one.

Assuming your installation disc is correct, fully compatible with Vista, etc. you could try to copy the contents of the disc to your hard drive, then install the game from there. That way you know that your CDrom isn't causing any of the problems (ie. not copying over something wrong or missing a file).

If you're still having problems at that point, I'd have to see a specific error (ie. the exact name of the .dll that is missing and screenshots of the errors).

(btw, you can check your system logs to see more details about the errors)

Might do Remote Assistance with you some time fl00d3d - I don't know how I can see System Errors. If I could, I'd go right ahead and post them here.

As for Vista, shinigami has the first decade and vista and it works fine. S:

Try right clicking on the install exe, go to the options/properties and installing it in windows XP compatability mode.

I tried it and it didn't work =[

That's the error for Red Alert 2 and Yuri's Revenge. The one on YR says the same thing.

Make sure you install the program as an Administrator. A normal user account (in XP and Vista) usually = errors.

Its not a bad install disc, I got the first decade a while back and the only game that would work was ren. All the others has errors like stitch.

You gotta install it with Administrator rights. This is a confirmed issue with The First Decade.

My Account is an Administrator - so that's not the problem.

Aye, but under Vista you have to right click the installer EXE and choose 'Run as Administrator' because for some reason it's not considered a TrustedInstaller and therefore requires explicit admin rights to be able to install properly.

^kinda what I was getting at. I don't have much Vista experience but a simple Google search (which you guys shoud learn to do more often) showed its definitely a permission issue.

Install it with administrative rights and you should be perfectly OK.
