Security update or spyware?

What do you guys think? I have gotten this message periodically for a couple years now, I keep denying it, but it keeps popping up. Of course I say no, it really isn't that convincing, but it has been increasingly annoying recently. It'll go away for a few months sometimes, then one day out of the blue it will return. Recently it has frozen my computer until I manually end it in the task manager. I have looked through google, everything says it is spyware or to just deny it, but nothing on how to make it go away. I have done a virus scan, and the only things that come up are a low risk "tracking cookie," and a high risk "vbs.gaggle.e@mm.com" and the vbs isn't causing it, I think. Neither can be removed (even doing exactly what the website says!). Any ideas would be nice. =D

Edit: I just removed it from my startup menu, and I'd like to remove the source, but I don't want to damage my computer. :)

Get a good spyware scanner and scan your computer. A good start is The home of Spybot-S&D!.

You can also try:

Start >> Run >> msconfig

And then check all of the processes that are configured to start up when your Windows starts up. You'd be suprised how much crap is in there (including spyware leftovers). Remove whatever you don't want, keeping in mind that some things you need @ startup for your system to run properly - so don't go too crazy.
