What would you like to see in a Minecraft server?
I'm thinking about creating a minecraft server from scratch, and would like to know what your recommendations are. (plugins, features, etc)
Just list below the feature you would like to see and please keep it realistic. If you have a link to the site/mod/plugin you want to have me take a look at post it.
I'm already in the process of making the VM

That would really be the only big thing I'd like. A pvp/survival server. Perhaps some sort of economy where we can earn money and buy certain things. The setup I liked was getting money for killing mobs and players, and then having a 'shop world.' in the game. There would be a teleport at the spawn that would bring you to a place where players can buy land, set up shop, and sell items theyve mined for their own set prices. I guess any other plugins that would help manage the server as well, i dont know as much about that though. I'm more then willing to help out setting up the server, I've got a bit of experience, as I set up a small server for a few friends on my laptop. Mostly vanilla server, messed with a few plugins.
But more then anything, I'd like to see traffic driven into the server. I'm not gonna play on an empty server, or even with three people on a day. The server i play on has a full 24 player server around 2 pm, so its a lot more attractive, though i do dislike a lot at that server. Find a way to get it shown wherever they have server listings, and a way to get players to vote for the server to make it more popular. Give them a reward for voting, like 2 diamonds or something like that.
(side note, is there anything on anticheats? thats kind of a problem on survival pvp servers.)

That is a start I will look into this plugintoadsdaki wrote:http://massivecraft.com/plugins/factions

Good idea, server listings are a good way to advertise, it would be nice if people told their friends also.toadsdaki wrote:But more then anything, I'd like to see traffic driven into the server. I already have that setup.toadsdaki wrote:(side note, is there anything on anticheats? thats kind of a problem on survival pvp servers.)

Re: What would you like to see in a Minecraft server?
Basically toad described the BHP minecraft server... survival, economy, central spawn city, ability to teleport between spawn and home (which you set yourself). That server also has the advantage of being established and having quite a few 'regulars', although it's not as busy as it was in the early days (often had 30+ people online at any time in the first few weeks!).
I don't have enough time to invest in projects on two different servers I'm afraid... so I would likely stay where I am at this point.

Re: What would you like to see in a Minecraft server?
i would basically just want to play survival. Like i don't mind some pvp but i don't want to die every 3 seconds so i guess i will just have to make my base really secret.
like i would even just be fine with a vanilla survival for now because that's all I've really been doing we just need admins around to protect against greifing
(also this might be our best bet at the moment with the huge 1.3 update on its way)

Along with this, I think I have a good Idea of what to do. Going with multi worlds, each having their own setting (pvp, creative, duplicity setting)darkdarr wrote:i would basically just want to play survival. Any objections?

Re: What would you like to see in a Minecraft server?
Multiple worlds just dilutes the playerbase amongst the different worlds so you end up never seeing another player in the same world as you on small servers

Re: What would you like to see in a Minecraft server?
Every map has no boundaries, so a player would could move out of sight anyways.
I'm not seeing the point.

Re: What would you like to see in a Minecraft server?
Actually theres a way to set boundaries isnt there? I made it to the end of the map on one server. The chunks were loaded, I just wasn't able to move past the invisible boundary. Would need research. I think the server was like 2500x2500 or so. Made it so you could still find peoples bases.
And in a response to darkdarr, the way factions is set up, you can claim pieces of land, and no one is able to place, destroy, or use buttons(aside from pressure plates) in your claimed land. So the only way you get griefed is if you get raided by someone who makes a tnt cannon outside youre claimed area. that being said, i've made some awesome impenetrable bases, as well as underground and in mountain bases
And also, i'd like to see mctop or whatever that plugin is called also. http://mcmmo.wikia.com/wiki/Mctop

that feature is part of a bigger add-on, I could add it but it would also add many other things as well.toadsdaki wrote:And also, i'd like to see mctop or whatever that plugin is called also. http://mcmmo.wikia.com/wiki/Mctop
