Re: Broke it

Woo!!!!!!! its back up!

Its turns out
1. It was trying to boot from wrong HDD
2. A cable was causing it to not boot properly but booted once disconnected
3. (really embarrassing one) When I took the ram out to test em one by one...I didn't properly seat one after putting all 4 back in

So it cost me $35 to get that simple embarrassing fix >_>

Well im taking it to a shop tomorrow and find out whats wrong with it and repair it myself =p hope its not the cpu >_> cant rly afford that to go and buy a new video card ='(

Re: Broke it

I stripped it down to cpu and psu and stopped there...still getting the no ram detected beep

Re: Broke it

psu has 1.5, 3.3, 5, 12 volt rails and it is possible to lose a 3v rail and still keep the 12v that the fans and lights run on.

Of course the less obvious and hardest to test culprit would be the memory controller on the motherboard itself being damaged....

Re: Broke it

I tested each stick of ram =p

Id guess psu is still working since all fans and lights are still working =o

guess its time 2 start stripping it =D

you try with no ram installed to get into bios? If still no joy - do you have another power suppy to try?

Did you add a nything new to your computer recently - vid card?

If all else fails try removing (including power connections) all cd and harddrives, ram and anything else other then vid. card connected to motherboard - you need to be able to get to bios. Lastly remove processor and try to get to bios.

The whole point is to narrow it down to a small list of components it isn't that is stopping your computer from running.

If you removed one stick of ram then tried the other one and still have that beep you may have lost the power supply 3v rail - my bet is on the power supply.

Are you sure you removed the right stick? Perhaps the one you took out was infact the working one :P

4got 2 mention sumthing ;) it wont boot when ram is in slot 0 but slot 1-3 it goes to splash =p

Re: Broke it

One long beep every 1 second....and the beep code in my manual says dead ram when that happens >_>

and I can only get to biostar splash screen....f1 and del dont work...just stays at the splash, del should take me into bios settings but I cant get that far...and f1 is to boot pc doesnt work either =D

you don't need ram to see the bios screen, there is usually 256k internal memory - can you press the delete key repeatedly when starting to get to the bios screen? When in bios check the first sceen to see if it recognizes the hard drive.
If the hard drive failed this may be why your computer goes no farther.

And yes I build and repair computers.

Most motherboards won't boot into bios without RAM because its used for video I/O (ie. so you can see something on the monitor).

How many beeps? And how fast. VERY important.

like,

"beepbeep ........ beep. beep. beep."

your computer should still start up without any ram in it.
check your bios settings then try to start in safe mode.
