CPU/Mobo/HDD Recommendations?

Post by fl00d3d »

I am *NOT* looking for the latest and greatest versions of these things. I am looking for an "average" system for the CPU/Mobo, at a good price. And I'm looking for an average (slightly better than average) SATA drive.

I'd like you guys to help me find these things. If you find anything that is at a good price and is near my requirements, please post below. I've found a few good things already, but I don't have time to keep digging around all night tonight so I thought I'd make this post.

HERE IS WHAT I NEED:
  • A motherboard (or mobo/cpu combo) that will support at least 3GB of RAM, 2 IDE channels (total of 4 IDE devices), and AGP 8x.
  • A CPU (or mobo/cpu combo) that is at least 2.8 Ghz and compatible with the motherboard listed above. No reject processors, like Celeron plx. And no 64-bit processors.
  • A SATA hard drive. Must be SATA (not IDE or SCSI). At least 74GB of storage. If you find out with a good amount of cache and/or higher RPM that is cheap, you can include that as well even though it will be 'a little more expensive'.

No reused or refurbished equipment unless it is recertified with a guarantee.

That's about it. If you have questions regarding what I'm looking for feel free to ask.

I'm looking to purchase this within the next 2 weeks. All items are somewhat urgent.

Thanks!

definately go for an AMD cpu + nVidia mobo ; AMD dual-core 3.0GHz 6000+ = 160 dollars, fast + affordable

I'd have to go look for a mobo.

I don't really need a video card. I have a spare GeForce 6600 sitting around, which will be better than anything they offer onboard.

The mobo/cpu will be for Metal Vixen's new computer I want to build (nothing too fancy, cuz she only really searches the web - not big into games).

The SATA drive will be for me, since I have a SATA motherboard which only supports 2 IDE devices (as a courtesy) .... and I have 4. So I need a SATA drive to put in this computer so that I can move 1-2 devices into Metal Vixen's computer.

Get the following:

E6600 to E6850 Intel C2D Series Processors
-or-
AMD Anthlon X2 4800+ to 6000+

Motherboard (Intel)

And for hard drives, I really don't know. Up until recently I know the raptors were in the lead, but WD recently released some bigger hard drives that totally pwn the raptors, so I don't know.. :S
