[BANNED] supergik PT Hack on CCTF/Nick stealing

This guy was banned by NR on CCTF for PT Hack, then halo2pac piped up saying that that guy has used wittbloxes, his, and a couple other nicks, and as you see below, the story checks out. Thanks ecstasy

I don't think this was actually halo2pac. Someone has been impersonating him (and a few other people, like wittebolx) recently. I'm not saying it isn't him, but more caution should go into making assumptions based off a simple !ip or !nick command. It's not too hard to pretend to be someone else.

Erm, I, and ecstasy know, that this wasn't halo2pac, but the guy had used halo2pacs name. Halo apparently recognizes the IP :p

They're pooled by ISP. Not geography.

most isps are city isps... unless you got a lot of terain to cover :S so // i call em city ips.. like my neihbors isp is wow.westlake.. wow is a major corp nation wide.. but the ips are pooled throught westlake only. i called the isp 3 months ago to ask

You're confusing WAN, MAN, LAN with CIDR.

ISPs may break down their network segements based on geographical regions. But they definitely don't allocate IP ranges based on cities/town. No one does.

ok.. back on topic though.. hes either found a (the hacker) to brute force a renegade ncik and pass.. or hes Packet sending. either way is it possible to ban only Ips and not nicks in NR? or what ever? and can you add just the IP to the data base that every NR connects to? cause you really cant stop either of those attacks he may use.

For starters, only a complete idiot would brute force a renegayd account.

Secondly, yes NR can ban just an IP

Thirdly, There is no point in banning an IP(s) on every NR client :/

If he's going through the elaborate process of packet crafting ... (HIGHLY doubtful) ... then what is stopping him from spoofing his IP (even easier than packet crafting)? So there's no point in banning only his IP.

The best thing we can do with name hacks is listen to the complain and then evaluate all of the information (log checks, talk to BHS about RenGuard network info, verify info in IPDB, etc.).
