Claiming tax on 'unofficial rent'

My parents are currently going though a divorce, and my dad is paying a friend of his a small fee to stay at their house untill the divorce is over (£300 a month + he pays for the food).

Is this illegal? Do they have to claim Tax on this £300? I am signing up for EMA but I have been asked to inform them about my dad living away and stuff and i said he was paying them rent to live there... would this get them into trouble?

Im a little worried about this and am not sure whether it was fraud or not. I have been asked to provide evidence that my dad stayed there... which i have with me - im just a little worried and concerned about it sending off =/

Could somebody please let me know the legal issue on this?

If they 'taxed' that 300, as in say tax is 10%, so the total per month is 330, that is up to them, but it is completely retarded, cause you might aswell just say 330 a month ...

Now, JUST 300 to live in a home? That's up to them, and it is legal.

i dont think thats the kind of tax like sales tax where they tack on a few %. and you must live in some bumfuck city in arkansas if you cant pay straight rent with utilities included. (change that line to georgia if your from or live in arkansas)

but if its in cash then there wont be a paper trail to prove anything, and you were asked not ordered, so you have the right to refuse.
