Ren problems.

I dont know what it is, why it started but it started about a week ago.

When I go ingame I cannot see pages, open chat or team chat messages. I can only see the messages from the bot, kill info and !msg's from irc. I have uninstalled and reinstalled I dont know how many times. I install cp1+2 and join the game. None of my skins, nothing extra. And my game is still f*cked.

When i remove the game, I delete all the westood fiiles in my C drive and my start menu. I empty my recycling bin then I restart. So there are no other old files that f*ck with the new install.

I thought it had something to do with scripts 3.4 or whatever it was cursed gave me and thats when i thought it all started.

The last time I heard of someone having a problem like this it was because Renegade was set to a widescreen resolution on a non widescreen monitor, so the image was squished into the smaller width of the monitor and the top of the image where the chat shows up was cut off, but if you can still see information from the bot in F2 chat I doubt that's the problem. Just mentioning it incase it would help.

The screen size is normal and everything. I can see all the other information but just not the chat messages. I cant says that I have ever heard of anyone having this kind of trouble before.

I'd try a fresh reload:

1. Uninstall Renegade
2. Manually delete your Renegade folder (it doesnt get deleted)
3. Go into your registry (dangerous, so be careful) using regedt32 and check hkey_local_machine >> Software >> for a Westwood key or set of keys and delete it. Make sure you delete ONLY the westwood stuff (make sure only it is highlighted) cuz there is no "undelete" in the registry and if you f*ck this step up you'll be forced to reload your operating system.
4. Clear out your recycle bin (not that important, but it protects you from an accidental restore)
5. Reboot.
6. Install Renegade from a trusted/clean source (ie. your own disks)
7. If its not The First Decade, then you'll need the 1.037 patch. Patch.
8. Try to join a game. No scripts changes, no CP, no RenGuard .. nothing .. just join a game. If it works fine, then you knwo that everything up to this point wasn't the cause of the problem and, tbh, I dont see how this process couldn't resolve your issue unless you have sort of graphics card or motherboard issue.
9. If it works and you want to continue patching, then i'd recommend installing the no_cd_crack at this point.
10. Then install RenGuard or CorePacks, etc.
11. The very last thing you should install are scripts, skins, etc. So at this step would be where you install scripts 3.x or your skins.

You might want to keep a copy of your Renegade folder every time you make a major change to the game (ie. steps 7, 10, and 11)

It's important that you check the game at each step (before you do the next step). Otherwise you won't know what is causing the problem. If the step works and the game loads fine, then try the next step. If that doesn't work, then you know that the problem is with something in that step.

My guess is that its either a skin issue or a scripts issue. So if you follow my steps you should be fine all the way to the very end.

Scripts.dll probably wouldn't do it, but some skins might change colors or be bugged out and cause unexpected results.

I didnt try and of that cause im not really sure what it was or how to do it.

I reinstalled my ren, my text was working fine then the b*tch cut out after i joined a server the second time. No patches or scripts, just the one that downloads when you install ren.
