Quad Processor Communication prob
i have a Q6600 Quad core on a Nforce 790i Ultra MB
now heres the prob
only 2 cores are being recognized by Bios
i try to enable the other 2 in Bios but they are grayed out. my Bios is only reading 2 CPU's
i know my chip isnt the problem because i downloaded Intel's Processor ID program and it does Report all 4 CPU's but somewhere this is no communication with my Bios
Task manager only shows 2 graphs for my CPU and my devince manager only shows 2 as well
i have Updated my OS to SP1 ( Vista ), Reset my CMMOS and i have Flashed my Bios
i dont know what else 2 do

Re: Quad Processor Communication prob
Have you tried right clicking on the processor in Device Manager and choosing to look for updated drivers?
However if the BIOS is not enabling the third and fourth processor cores it's VERY unlikely windows will be able to use them, I think your going to have to find out WHY the BIOS won't let you enable them, perhaps there is some hardware in your system which is incompatible with Quad core processors, maybe look through the motherboard instructions to see if there are any things which would cause it to not be able to support a Quad core processor.

Re: Quad Processor Communication prob
You said "quad core" in your post, but "quad processor" in your subject. Big difference between the two.
To be completely honest, you probably don't have a 'Quad Processor' system because the motherboards and such are very ... nonstandard. Most likely you have a dual processor (two physical CPU chips), dual core.
CPU1
--core1
--core2
CPU2
--core1
--core2
= quad core
Though I'm not doubting you COULD have a quad processor, it's rather unlikely ... and nonetheless, makes a huge difference when troubleshooting.
If you have a quad core, and your bios is picking up 2 CPUs, then your BiOS is fine. Just make sure you have the latest motherboard drivers and open up task manager to see how many windows are showing (should have 4).
I'll wait to hear back from you before I talk any more.

Re: Quad Processor Communication prob
So you have a motherboard with four processor sockets in it, running 1 core on each of the four processors? That must have cost a LOT, generally only server class machines are setup like that because of the sheer cost of quad processor motherboards, and buying 4 processors to put in them.
Re: Quad Processor Communication prob
it wasn't that bad we got a good deal def worth it
and no... one 755 Socket but the processor is a Quad Core

Re: Quad Processor Communication prob
I thought so
The reason Sean brought it up is because it makes a big difference to troubleshooting, quad processor = 4 physical processors, while quad core = 4 logical processors, which is a different thing entirely, and is what you get with the Core 2 Quad processors.
Re: Quad Processor Communication prob
yeah i get it i just read what he said wrong. Being smart is hard to balance out when you smoke as much weed as i do but being a stoner you do what you can
