How to lower ping

OK so i started playing cod4 and my ping seems well high to everyone elses, i always close everything such as msn and xfire, fraps and the like but it still doesn,t lower much, can anyone suggest perhaps a program or just a method of reducing these figures?

These will help you tweak your connection settings to get the max bandwidth out of whatever your using.

You also want to make sure your firewall isn't blocking or restricting ICMP (ping).
