Microphone issues
Well, from what I can tell, my rear jack for my microphone is f*cked, and thinks it's a speaker port. This came to ahead after I formatted my computer (Yay for BSOD!), anyways, my audio software for speakers / microphones wasn't installed with the format. (Dunno why, though ;\)
So, I've got a microphone port wanting to be a speaker port, but I need it as a mic port. (Lols, reminds me of wiggers ;o ) Any ideas for how to make my mic port back into a mic port? ;x

Re: Microphone issues
That's f*cked up... Reinstall all of the relevant drivers? Also you could probably invest in a USB microphone as a short term solution.

Re: Microphone issues
Hmm my laptop has a speaker port that is designed to be a mic port as well, so maybe its supposed to do both, but its not on the right 'mode'?
Kind of hard to diagnose when we dont have the program in front of us to look at all the settings...
You could also just try and plug in a mic, and see if it detects it? (just a thought)
and, um, when you format your computer, it removes everything, it doesnt install drivers. Those need to be manually put back on.

Re: Microphone issues
The mic goes in the Red/Pink one.
Primary/Front Speakers (or headset) goes in the green one.
If your sound card is built into your motherboard, then you need to install your motherboard drivers right after you're done reinstalling the operating system. It will include audio drivers (or you can download them if you're able to get on the internet).
As far as configurations go: once you have all drivers properly installed, you can go to: Start > Settings > Control Panel > Sounds and Audio Devices, then click on the 'Audio' tab and make sure your 'Sound Playback' is your OUTPUT, and your 'Sound Recording' is your INPUT. Click on the Volume button for 'Sound Recording', if you want, to geek out some more specific settings (such as making sure 'Microphone' is checked and not line in or anything like that.

Re: Microphone issues
Right click the Sound icon next to the clock, click playback devices. Right click on the speakers and click Configure Speakers. Set the speakers to Stereo (or whatever is the correct setting for your soundcard) and click Next, follow the setup through to the end.
This should reassign the speaker jacks as appropriate for your chosen configuration.
What's probably happened is Windows is trying to create a 5.1 setup on a device which does not have enough output jacks to support that, and therefore remapped the microphone input jack as a surround sound output jack.

As much as you wouldn't expect, but I'm pretty sure chocko knows what he's talking about. O.o
And wtf's an OEM driver? D=

Re: Microphone issues
He doesnt know what he's talking about. Most of what he said was quoting back what we already said... or else he was trying to diss what we said? I dont know, his post was really confusing.Commie wrote:As much as you wouldn't expect, but I'm pretty sure chocko knows what he's talking about. O.o

OEM driver is the driver that originally came with the product.
I'm guessing you didn't get it sorted out then?

Re: Microphone issues
If he's so knowledgeable, how come he can't fix this SIMPLE problem himself?chocko wrote:lolwtf...you f*cking think? he's not stupid. The mic goes in the Red/Pink one.

Did he say that he already tried that? No, he did not.chocko wrote:you f*cking think? he's not stupid.and, um, when you format your computer, it removes everything, it doesnt install drivers. Those need to be manually put back on.
This does seem a bit obvious, but I have *A LOT* of formal hands on experience with hardware and software - as well as a lot of formal education on the same - and the #1 cause of outages is "operator error" (ie. the guy using the equipment not knowing wtf they're doing). So I think it is more than fair for this to at least be mentioned.chocko wrote:you f*cking think? he's not stupid. You could also just try and plug in a mic, and see if it detects it? (just a thought)
Actually, it does.chocko wrote:Right click the Sound icon next to the clock, click playback devices. Right click on the speakers and click Configure Speakers. Set the speakers to Stereo (or whatever is the correct setting for your soundcard) and click Next, follow the setup through to the end.

It's not "just f*cked". He's very clearly missing a fundamental step - which is why everyone has proposed fundamental solutions. So before you come on here acting like your some A+ Certified professional with a masters degree in computer engineering ... prove you can at least register on the site and post intelligently.chocko wrote: |||||

Murder, if this is a friend of yours I advise you to tell him to stop pretending he knows what he's talking about and being rude to our regulars. His advice was wrong, and he was an *sshole about it.
Re: Microphone issues
Well, if you two wanna keep this going, then go ahead.

I found my CD with the sound drivers on it, then it just fixed itself.danpaul88 wrote:Did anything in this topic help? Just curious.
