Commie's issues: Pt.2
My computer seems to hate my graphics card drivers. Whenever I try to install the newest graphics drivers on my computer, then restart, it won't load windows up. I gotta load up Safe Mode and uninstall the drivers to get my Windows working again.
It'll load up BIOS, but won't go any further than that.
I can run my computer fine without the drivers, but it won't work with them. The graphics card I'm running is nVIDIA GeForce 8500. I'm also running on Vista, if people want to laugh. (Or maybe I'm missing some critial update?)

I've got a 9800GTX on Vista, and I had no problems with the drivers.
Did you buy the 8500 separate? Or did you get a new computer? If you got it separate, there *should* be a disc with it that has the drivers on it. If not, yeah, make sure you are downloading/installing the correct driver.

The drivers I'm using are coming from the CD.

Re: Commie's issues: Pt.2
Try installing a slightly older version than the latest, sometimes certain versions of drivers disagree with some installations of Windows.
Re: Commie's issues: Pt.2
Wait, so what is it. The latest drivers, the ones from your CD, or both?Commie wrote:The drivers I'm using are coming from the CD.
Regardless, you could try and find a free version of drivecleaner (google that) and see if that will take em off, then you can try re-installing them.
Also ensure motherboard drivers are up to date, BIOS, etc..

Re: Commie's issues: Pt.2
^Yes, make sure your motherboard drivers are installed (up-to-date isn't always a big deal, but usually helps performance). Definitely good advice.SpAzEr wrote: Also ensure motherboard drivers are up to date, BIOS, etc..
^Also good advice. Many of the newer drivers are beta or aren't WHQL certified and have a lot of compatibility issues or bugs that make it not worth it. Rolling back to the previous version can help. Try to stick to WHQL certified versions because those have been very thoroughly tested.danpaul88 wrote:Try installing a slightly older version than the latest, sometimes certain versions of drivers disagree with some installations of Windows.
The only other advice I can give you is that it sounds like a refresh rate issue. If you tell your video card to use a refresh rate that your monitor can't support, the monitor will go black or the operating system won't load. My recommendation is (1) to completely uninstall ALL video drivers *excluding* the motherboard ones. -then- (2) reboot -then- (3) install the latest WHQL certified driver -then- (4) when it asks to reboot your PC, say 'I'll do it manually later' or whatever ... and right click your desktop to go to your video properties and check your refresh rate (Settings > Advanced > Monitor). Anything less than 65hz is going to hurt your eyes, so try to go for the highest your monitor will support (There is a setting for that). Usually 70hz is a safe one, but some newer monitors go up to 75hz, 85hz, etc.
After you've done all that, reboot again, and see if it fixes it. Keeping in mind the advice that Spazer and Danpaul gave you as well.

I've used both CD and downloaded drivers.SpAzEr wrote:Wait, so what is it. The latest drivers, the ones from your CD, or both?Commie wrote:The drivers I'm using are coming from the CD.
And will do on fl00d3d's instructions ;o

I had the same problem, and I installed the older version and it worked fine...
Re: Commie's issues: Pt.2
Well, I've hit a BSOD when I tried to load them back on from the CD again..
The only thing I picked up from it was 'MEMORY_POOL_DETECTED_DATA_CORRUPTION'
And apparently that's from RAM. So, would I need to replace both my sticks or just one of them?

Re: Commie's issues: Pt.2
90% chance its not your RAM. RAM can go bad, but its pretty rare.
I'm 99% sure you're still having driver problems.
