For the most part, on a newer motherboard you want to put the largest stick of RAM (ie. your 1gb stick) in the first slot, and then the next largest stick in the 2nd slot, etc. Typically you should try to pair them as best as possible since some types of RAM and motherboards require this.

It's really simple to put RAM in. Google is your friend.

You should really refer to the motherboard manual for the optimal placement of RAM modules for that board.

I assumed that if he didn't know how to install fool-proof RAM that he probably wouldn't have the patience or technical knowledge to do anything constructive with a motherboard manual. :)

I have no manual..I know its some what basic to install, just don't understand why there would be two colored slot locks..you know at the end of slot..the locks to hold ram in down.
I figure put them in matching color slots. the comp recognizes their installed no matter where I put them,
gust don't know if it works a full potential
There are 4 slots for ram, two of each 4 is paired very close together and the other two the same. blk-wht space blk-wht

thanks.. :airkiss: I'll keep investigating it and let you know if I find some thing more about this matte

Two sets of two coloured slots means your motherboard supports dual channel RAM. If you install matched RAM modules (same size, speed, latency etc etc) in two slots of the same colour it enables dual channel mode on those slots, which supposedly speeds things up. Or something like that.

I might go and read up on what exactly dual channel does thats better than not having it, I have never really bothered looking it up before, just assumed that I was getting some sort of benefit by using it :P
