NOTICE:

We will be making a lot of server changes today. If IRC, Teamspeak, etc. are down - this is why.

For anyone that can see this message, congratulations: your DNS has propogated!

For any of your friends that try to surf to this website and get a 404 error or can't see the site, tell them to open a command prompt and type in:

Code: Select all

ipconfig /flushdns
Other services such as teamspeak, irc, and game servers are expected to be offline until this afternoon. We apologize for the rare outage.

The only two things that should currently be down are IRC and Teamspeak.

Theoretically the game servers should be up, but Lee may have opt'd not to start them since I'm doing something differently with them (going online with the IRC and Teamspeak). So if the game servers are still down, thats my fault.

I'm sorry guys, but with me working a second job and Lee only being able to help out for half a day today, it's been one hell of a challenge migrating two full dedicated servers into one superserver (Which is what we have now).

The new box is a dual processor, quad core, 2x12mb cache, 12gb RAM, 2tb in storage. And it eats babies for breakfast.

I'll keep you posted.

Theoretically, yes.

A lot of the lag has to do with the hard disk I/O (which won't change at all) and the bots (which we have no plans to stop). And the system RAM accessible by the game server will be decreased from 8 to 2, however those 2gigs will be only for tsugaming. CPU will be more powerful.

In the end, I do think it will help with lag, or at least be close to the same. But this is a strategic move for the company.

More info to come. I can't work tonight - exhausted. Will fix this first thing tomorrow evening.

Considering you have no technical role and the three people that do (myself, my unix admin, and Lee) are all either full time students or are employed in another full time job ... there really isn't a reason to complain publically like that.

The entire infrastructure has changed, and long story short: Lee has taken an extra day and a half to do what I thought he could do in one night. Thus the extended outage.

I have been told the Renegade servers are back online and that teamspeak/irc are soon to follow.

When I get home from work tonight, I will follow up on all tsugaming stuff.

Stupid question: Since it's a VM, why didn't you set it up and test it BEFORE taking the existing services offline? It's not as if you need to give them their proper WOL logins and such to test that they can load and connect to XWIS...
