Who still plays Renegade?

Who still plays Renegade?

Where do you play?

I've been playing Renegade recently, and I've been playing on Jelly since our server has been empty. But I've had a few people come to me asking about breathing life back into our server - so I thought I'd start this discussion to get things going.

What things do you like about our server? What things don't you like? (ie. what would make you want to play in another server instead of playing in the TsuGaming servers?)

I want to figure out what the issue is, so that if it can be fixed we can fix it for you. If it can't be fixed, then we'll just clean it up and leave a server up for the hell of it - and wash our hands of this dying game. But if there are still people who play regularly, it'd be nice to play in our own server.

I play when I feel I have anough time. Most of the games i play go on for hours. And as for activity atm, none. I haven't played a Video game in about 9 days because of school.

Stone, there are quite a few people that still play. Most of them are in Jelly.

But Jelly just turned SSGM crates on for some reason and the quality of players there is either hot or cold. Hardly any average players.

So what I was thinking about doing was creating a pretty standard server that has some goofy rules. For example: RGH only really helps snipers, and snipers rarely help in a good AOW match anyway (unless they're sniping aircraft or other snipers). So we could make a rule that there are only a certain number of snipers allowed per team. We could also bring "Pro AOW" rules back, which would allow people to votekick (and mods to qkick) people for doing n00b things like camping with a sbh or buying transport helicopters. The total server slot size would probably be like 16, to keep the games small. They probably wouldn't fill that high anyway. And if I can get Nighma12 to code something for me, we could make a clan-mode where people can associate their account with a clan, and they'd always be on the same team. Little things like this would make our server stand out - and I think Ren could use a fresh variety. The only reason Jelly is so popular is because of the a000 nicknames. We have a00000004 and a00000005, so we can still have a chance if we put together a unique enough server.

Keep this discussion going.

i honestly play rarely now

with it being summer and me finally have my car back i am out and about more and near my computer less. I feel like i play more video games while i am at college then when i am home. I have not played a computer game while i have been home and i have played very little PS3. But when i do i play MW2 and my brother just got Red Dead so i guess i will play that some as well.

I am perfectly capable of still keeping the servers up (which was my goal to begin with) and keeping an administrative role on the servers, but as of trying to play more i am just doing other things this summer between friends, work, school, girlfriend (who thinks video games is a waste of my life) and paintball.

also to what fl00d said i like those idea's but even pros want to join a server with people in them, and coming from a COD stand point very few people will stay in a game where there is a whole clan on the other team and just get smashed again and again (i like to stay in these games because its a great way to get better). I think splitting the clan evenly to both teams is a better way to do things just because it gives them great practice and doesn't make the game overly one sided. If clans complain we can make it so the clan is all on one team later

oh and on the sniper thing TF2 has a code for that and it just gets annoying to me when im not allowed to snipe (especially when a noob is taking a sniper slot up)

Just out of curiosity, how much money do we spend on renegade a month? I think the only way we are going to get people into our server is to n00b it up honestly. No one plays in a pure or near pure server anymore, it's just to boring for them. We need crates, shells, ped on... everything. The servers that do get players have all of this plus their own server mod system.

EXPERIMENT!!!! Suggestion: You have 2 slots pretty high up on the server list, what you can do is have one server pure aow with "Pro Style Rules" and another one with all that extra stuff that Spurs mentioned and see how it works out. Its an easy way to help those who join the "Pro" server and play like a noob to send them to the other server instead of just being an *sshole ( NOT SAYING ANYONE WILL BE ONE ;) ) and kicking them out for being a noob. 8-) 8-)

I think we might be letting a customer use 0e atm. Not sure.

Regardless, I think you all have good points.

The best way to approach this, I think, would be to fill a role that isn't being filled in the community. There aren't that many players out there, and there is already a server (or two) that is reputable and somewhat stable. So I think that competing with a "normal" AOW server is out of the question - unfortunately.

None of the high-listed servers are sniper servers. And people love to snipe. Granted many of them are cheaters, but we can work through that. And I think if we put a high a00 name sniper server up it will pull snipers out of Jelly. So it kinda does them a favor too. Maybe put this on 05.

For 04 we can try to put up an AOW server that is more "pro". Kinda like how I described above. We'd call it TsuGaming.com :: AOW (no n00bs) or something like that, rather than something like TsuGaming.com :: Pro AOW which might make people think its only for pros or that its not a normal AOW-style server. The point of this server would not be for pros only. It would be to prohibit n00bs from playing there. And most people who know how to ban evade aren't n00b enough to be banned for being that n00b ....... and anyone who is kicked from our server is just gunna go to some place like Jelly, rather than fight us. So I think it has a fighting chance.

In order to get these servers to work, though, we would have to have 200% commitment from our Renegade players HERE. You guys would have to always give our server priority. If there are 1-2 people in our AOW and 20 in Jelly ... you'd have to commit to joining our server instead. I know how much that sucks, especially if your short on time and just want a good game - but that's the only way we're going to start to build this server back up. Outsiders aren't going to just change their favorite server from some place like Jelly to ours.

Another important part will be getting a stable bot up and running. We had a lot of issues with NightRegulator before, but I think Nightma12 has worked out most of those bugs. We would need a stable IRC presence as well as a strong bot. If IRC and NR aren't up 99% of the time or more, it doesn't matter how good the server is ... it will fail.

So ultimately this discussion is: do WE have the commitment to bring the server back to life or not?

i alone could keep the bot and server up 95% of the time so if we had one more person like spurs (who already knows how to and has access to) making sure they are up and NR is running we can easily keep them up 99% if not 100% of the time.

on the topic of IRC presences if every active member of TSU (i mean more the regulars and known people) would just idle in the IRC channels and look at them like once a day and maybe talk to someone in game it will make the community and the server look very active (this is probably the easiest part if people just download mIRC

as for playing when i play i always play TSU but i dont have the time to play very much ...

Before i handed over the servers to darr. I had NR (the TsuGaming version) running for several months without me touching it.

I do feel like ive heard everything in this topic before... this is what I was attempting when i last took the Ren Manager position.. i created "new things".

Kanes Power - n00bs ruined it cz people didnt play properly
Mutation - died as soon as the kids went back to school. - Seems people got bored of it to me.

i have not had a problem with NR really it stays up pretty well it was the auto updater on the box that took the server down most of the time (and lack of funding)
