Many of you remember the post (topic) about how I was going to update the website. Well, this is a quick "I don't care about the details" history of what actually happened after 6pm or so yesterday....
- I made a bunch of announcements about the work I was going to do.
- I backed up the database
- I did a fresh install of the latest phpBB3 core
- I did a few other fixes/organization things
- I deleted the database
- I created a new database and populated it with data from a default phpBB3 installation
- I went to update the database with all of our data......
- BAM! Problem! The database backup was corrupted. Even though it said it had completed successfully. About 75% of the data was missing from the SQL query, which pretty much meant it was entirely worthless. And the last backup I personally had on my computer was from 2 months ago. Not cool.
- So then I tried to work with HostGator to find out what happened to the database and to see if they had a copy that worked. They didn't. They said they only had a copy that was broken as well.
- So then a few hours ago Nightma12 and I decided we would just restore the 2 month old copy of the database and start making it similar to what we had yesterday.
- Then I got an email from HostGator saying they found the actual data files on a private backup server that they were able to piece together a recent backup from. They did that for me, and created another database so I could check it out.
- I looked at this other database and realized that it was data from just hours before this whole mess happened. Which means very little was lost!
- After I verified that this version was stable and got numerous, verified, backups of it - I put it online. Which is what you see right now.
Basically the only thing that's missing are some UT3 forum updates (which Nightma12 or I will do later) and some News posts explaining some of the changes that were going to take place. Now that it's missing because of what happened, I have to repeat myself. Here's the simple version:
While I'm working on the website I'm going to keep the forums online. So no matter what you'll still be able to use the forums. I've changed the site to use the default template (and reset everyone's preferences to use the default template). This template is 100% stable and up-to-date. I *HIGHLY* recommend you use it while I'm working on the site. If for some wild reason you can't stand this template and want to use our normal/custom template (which is called "Xtreme"), then you can go to your UCP (user control panel) and change your preferences in there. If you use Xtreme, however, you'll notice a LOT of bugs and at times it might not even work at all. Possibly even the forums. So you might need to reset back to the default.
If at any time you get stuck, can't use the sight at all, or hit an error so bad that you can't even use the site -- just go to our Facebook wall and message me there. And I'll fix you up ASAP. The address, of course, is http://www.tsugaming.com/facebook.
I apologize for all of the confusion, but at least there was very little data that was lost. It couldn't have been prevented. I didn't do anything wrong. So we're lucky. That being said, I have work to do. So if you have any questions, feel free to ask them here.
